Airbnb local recommendations card template

A long list of every restaurant in town gets skimmed and ignored. A handful of picks you'd actually send a friend, organized by category, get used.

Tips

  1. 1One line each, organized by category. If you wouldn't personally recommend it to a friend visiting, leave it off.
  2. 2Four to six picks beats twenty. A long list gets skimmed and ignored, a short one gets used.
  3. 3Revisit this every few months, restaurants close and hours change more often than hosts remember to check.

When you need Local recommendations

This is the one document where being generic makes it worthless. A guest can find the top-rated restaurant themselves in about four seconds. What they cannot get from a search engine is which of the four similar cafes on the same street is actually good, which one is a tourist trap, and where locals go on a Tuesday.

It is also the cheapest way to make a stay feel hosted rather than transacted. Guests remember the coffee place you sent them to. It shows up in reviews more often than almost anything else you can control, and it costs one afternoon of writing down places you already go.

Where it goes

On the fridge or the kitchen table, where people plan their day, and in your digital welcome book if you have one. This is the single item most worth having in both places, because guests refer back to it repeatedly across a stay rather than once at arrival.

Common mistakes

Listing places you have not been

A recommendation you cannot personally vouch for is just a search result with your name on it. If you would not send a friend there, leave it off.

Too many options

Twenty picks is a directory and gets skimmed. Four to six with a reason each gets used. The reason matters more than the count.

No walking times

Guests without a car are deciding based on distance more than anything else. Add minutes on foot, and say plainly when somewhere needs a drive.

Letting it go stale

Restaurants close and hours change faster than hosts remember to check. Sending someone to a place that shut last year actively costs you goodwill.

Printing this is fine. Coho turns it into a page guests actually open.

Coho’s Guest Welcome Book puts everything a guest needs, this included, on one link or QR code that never changes. No app or account for your guest, ever.
